Mola Ali Name:
This blog post delves into the ancestry of Mola Ali (AS), a prominent figure in Islamic history and a close companion of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). We’ll also explore the story behind his name, drawing from a Hadith narration.
Hadith Narration
Hazrat Musab bin Abdullah Al-Rabi narrates a Hadith found in Mustadrak al Hakim 4573:
Hazrat Musab bin Abdullah Al-Rabi narrates: Fatima bint Asad bin Hashim was the first Hashimite woman to be born to a Hashimite man. She used to reside in a grand governmental palace during the مبارک (Mubarak) era of رسول اللہ (Rasool Allah). Her death occurred during the holy life of Rasool Allah (صلی اللہ). Her funeral prayer was performed by آپ علیہم (Alayhim) and حضرت علی (Hazrat Ali) was her name given as “Asad”. That’s why he (Hazrat Ali) said:
“I am the one whose name my mother kept as ‘Haider’.”

Understanding the Lineage and Name
The Hadith narrates that Mola Ali’s (AS) mother, Fatima bint Asad, belonged to the prestigious Hashim clan, the same lineage as Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It further details that Mola Ali (AS) initially received the name “Asad” but was also called “Haider” by his mother. While the specific meaning of “Asad” is “lion,” the meaning of “Haider” is debated among scholars. Some interpretations suggest it signifies “brave lion,” aligning with the qualities associated with lions.
This Hadith offers a glimpse into Mola Ali’s (AS) background and the significance of his name. It highlights the close connection between him and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through their shared ancestry.
