Hindi Translation (हिंदी अनुवाद)
मैं गवाही देता हूँ कि अल्लाह के सिवा कोई माबूद नहीं, वह अकेला है, उसका कोई साझी नहीं; और मैं गवाही देता हूँ कि मुहम्मद उसके बंदे और उसके रसूल हैं।
Word by word, the dua breaks down like this:
- Ashhadu – I bear witness / I testify
- an la ilaha illallah – that there is no god but Allah
- wahdahu – alone, the One
- la sharika lahu – He has no partner
- wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan – and I bear witness that Muhammad

Source of Wazu Ke Baad Ki Dua: Sahih Muslim
Umar ibn al-Khattab reported that the Prophet ﷺ said that whoever performs wudu and does it well, then says this testimony, the eight gates of Paradise are opened for him and he may enter through whichever he wishes. This is recorded in Sahih Muslim 234; the full wording used above, with “wahdahu la sharika lahu”, is in the second narration (234b).
The same hadith also mentions the virtue of praying two rak’at after wudu with full attention of the heart and face. So the dua and the two rak’at go well together.
What the Quran says about purity
Allah praises those who keep themselves clean in Surah Al-Baqarah 2:222:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ التَّوَّابِينَ وَيُحِبُّ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ
English meaning: “Indeed, Allah loves those who constantly repent and loves those who purify themselves.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:222)

Why Wudu Matters
Wudu is not only a routine before salah. The Prophet ﷺ said that the prayer of a person who has broken his wudu is not accepted until he performs ablution again (Sahih Bukhari 135).
He ﷺ also said that on the Day of Resurrection his followers will be called “al-ghurr al-muhajjalun”, shining from the traces of wudu (Sahih Bukhari 136). Saying the dua after a careful wudu completes this act of worship.
When and How to Read Wazu Ke Baad Ki Dua
Read it once you have finished every step of wudu. In Sahih Bukhari 159, Uthman ibn Affan showed the wudu of the Prophet ﷺ like this:
- Wash both hands three times.
- Rinse the mouth and clean the nose with water, then blow it out.
- Wash the face three times.
- Wash the forearms up to the elbows three times.
- Pass wet hands over the head.
- Wash the feet up to the ankles three times.
After the last step, say wazu ke baad ki dua calmly, with attention to its meaning. It is a personal dua, so a normal low voice is enough.
If you have time, pray two rak’at after wudu. Bilal told the Prophet ﷺ that whenever he made wudu, by day or by night, he prayed after it as much as was written for him, and the Prophet ﷺ had heard his footsteps in Paradise (Sahih Bukhari 1149).
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Rushing the words: “la ilaha illallah” should be clear, with the meaning in mind.
- Mixing up “abduhu” and “abdullah”: both wordings are reported in Sahih Muslim, so either is correct; just keep the sentence complete.
- Forgetting the dua: make it a habit by saying it every single time, including the wudu you make at home before going to the masjid.
- Hurrying the wudu itself: the hadith speaks of wudu done well, so take care to wash each part fully.
Teaching children wazu ke baad ki dua is easy because they often already know the Kalma Shahadat. Practise it with them after each wudu, together with the masjid mein dakhil hone ki dua.
