Gussa Ki Dua in Roman Urdu
Roman Urdu: A’oozu billahi minash shaitanir rajeem
Read it slowly: A’oozu (I seek refuge) – billahi (with Allah) – minash-shaitan (from Satan) – ar-rajeem (the accursed, the rejected one). The “dh” in a’udhu is a soft sound, like “th” in “this”; many Urdu speakers say it as “z”, which is common in the subcontinent.
Urdu Tarjuma
اردو ترجمہ: میں اللہ کی پناہ مانگتا ہوں شیطان مردود سے۔
English Meaning and Word by Word
English meaning: I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the accursed.
- A’udhu – I seek refuge, I seek protection
- Billahi – with Allah
- Mina – from
- Ash-Shaitan – Satan, the devil
- Ar-Rajim – the accursed, the one driven away
The meaning explains why it works. Anger is often a push from Shaitan, so the remedy is to turn to Allah and ask for His protection from that push.
Chinese Translation (中文翻译)

Bengali Translation (বাংলা অনুবাদ)
আমি বিতাড়িত শয়তান থেকে আল্লাহর কাছে আশ্রয় চাই।
Hindi Translation (हिंदी अनुवाद)
मैं धुत्कारे हुए शैतान से अल्लाह की पनाह माँगता हूँ।
Source of Gussa Ki Dua in Hadith
Sulaiman bin Surad (may Allah be pleased with him) said that two men were quarrelling in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ. One of them became so angry that his face turned red and his veins swelled. The Prophet ﷺ said that he knew a word which, if the man said it, would make his anger go away: “I seek refuge with Allah from Satan.” This is reported in Sahih Bukhari 3282, and also in Sahih Bukhari 6115 and Sahih Muslim 2610 with the words “minash-shaitanir-rajim”.
So gussa ki dua is not a long wazifa. It is one sentence, taught by the Prophet ﷺ himself, for the exact moment of anger.
Quran Verses About Anger
The Quran gives the same instruction. When a whisper from Shaitan stirs you up, seek refuge in Allah (Surah Al-A’raf 7:200):
وَإِمَّا يَنزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ نَزْغٌ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
English meaning: And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is Hearing and Knowing.
Allah also praises the people who swallow their anger and forgive others (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:134):
الَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ فِي السَّرَّاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ وَالْكَاظِمِينَ الْغَيْظَ وَالْعَافِينَ عَنِ النَّاسِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ
English meaning: Who spend [in the cause of Allah] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people – and Allah loves the doers of good.
When and How to Read Gussa Ki Dua
Read it at the very first sign of anger, before you reply, argue or send a message. You do not need wudu, and you do not need to raise your hands. Saying it quietly under your breath is enough.
5 Sunnah Steps to Control Anger
- Say the dua straight away. As taught in Sahih Bukhari 3282, seek refuge with Allah from Shaitan the moment you feel your anger rising.
- Remember the Quran’s instruction. Surah Al-A’raf 7:200 tells us to seek refuge in Allah whenever Shaitan stirs us up.
- Remember what real strength is. The Prophet ﷺ said the strong person is not the one who wins a wrestling match, but the one who controls himself when angry (Sahih Bukhari 6114).
- Hold on to the Prophet’s ﷺ advice. A man asked the Prophet ﷺ for advice and he said, “Do not become angry”, repeating it several times (Sahih Bukhari 6116).
- Restrain and forgive. Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:134 lists swallowing anger and pardoning people among the qualities Allah loves.
Common Mistakes With Gussa Ki Dua
- Waiting until the argument is over. The hadith teaches the dua for the moment of anger itself, not only afterwards.
- Thinking it is only for adults. Children can learn this short dua too; parents can say it aloud so children pick it up.
- Saying the words but continuing to shout. The dua works together with self-control: lower your voice and stop speaking for a moment.
- Treating anger as harmless. Words spoken in anger can break families and friendships. The Quran and Sunnah treat controlling anger as a sign of real strength.
