Doosra Kalma Shahadat in Arabic

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَّا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُوْلُهُ

Roman Urdu: Ash-hadu al-lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahū lā sharīka lahū wa ash-hadu anna Muḥammadan ʿabduhū wa rasūluh.

Doosra Kalma Meaning in English and Urdu

English: I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah. He is One and has no partner. And I bear witness that Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and His Messenger.

Urdu tarjuma:

میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، وہ اکیلا ہے، اس کا کوئی شریک نہیں، اور میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ حضرت محمد ﷺ اس کے بندے اور رسول ہیں۔

Kalma Shahadat Word by Word

Learning the meaning of each word makes this kalma much easier to understand and remember:

Doosra Kalma in Hadith: Saying It After Wudu

Uqbah bin Amir reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: whoever performs wudu well and then says, “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger,” the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him, to enter by whichever he wishes.

Reference: Sahih Muslim 234

This is why many parents teach this kalma together with wudu: the child finishes washing and then recites the testimony, building a habit for life.

Kalma Shahadat in Salah (Tashahhud)

Every Muslim already recites the words of Kalma Shahadat several times a day. At the end of At-Tahiyyat in the sitting position of salah, we say “Ash-hadu al-lā ilāha illallāhu wa ash-hadu anna Muḥammadan ʿabduhū wa rasūluh”, which is almost the same wording. So when you learn the doosra kalma, you are also learning an important part of your prayer.

Kalma Shahadat in the Quran

Allah Himself bears witness to His oneness in Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:18:

شَهِدَ اللَّهُ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ

English: Allah bears witness that there is no deity except Him.

Reference: Quran 3:18

Pronunciation Tips

  • Say ash-hadu with a clear “h” after the “sh” (ش then ه). Saying “ashadu” drops a letter.
  • Stretch the long “aa” in lā ilāha and illallāh; these long vowels are part of the meaning.
  • In waḥdahū the ḥ (ح) is a soft breathy sound from the throat, not the ordinary h (ه).
  • Pause briefly after lā sharīka lahū before starting the second testimony about the Prophet ﷺ.

Easy Way to Memorise Doosra Kalma

  • Split it into two halves: the testimony about Allah, then the testimony about the Prophet ﷺ.
  • Learn one half per day, reading it aloud three times after each salah.
  • Recite the full doosra kalma after every wudu, as taught in Sahih Muslim 234.
  • Once it is memorised, read the Urdu tarjuma once so the meaning stays in the heart, not just on the tongue.
