Cheenk Ki Dua: Sneeze Dua in Arabic with Urdu Tarjuma

Cheenk ki dua is one of the shortest and easiest sunnah duas: when you sneeze you say “Alhamdulillah”, the person who hears you replies “Yarhamukallah”, and you answer back with a short prayer for them. People also search for it as chheenk aane ki dua, chheenk ki dua or sneeze dua. Below you will find all three phrases in Arabic with a copy button, Roman Urdu, Urdu tarjuma, English meaning and the Sahih Bukhari source.

Cheenk Ki Dua in Arabic (Copy Paste)

The Prophet ﷺ taught a simple exchange of three phrases. The first is said by the person who sneezes.

1. When You Sneeze: Alhamdulillah

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

Roman Urdu: Alhamdulillah

اردو ترجمہ: تمام تعریفیں اللہ کے لیے ہیں۔

English meaning: All praise is for Allah.

Chinese Translation (中文翻译)

一切赞颂全归真主。

Bengali Translation (বাংলা অনুবাদ)

সমস্ত প্রশংসা আল্লাহর জন্য।

Hindi Translation (हिंदी अनुवाद)

सारी प्रशंसा अल्लाह के लिए है।

2. The Listener Replies: Yarhamukallah

If you hear a Muslim sneeze and say Alhamdulillah, you reply with this short dua of mercy.

يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ

Roman Urdu: Yarhamukallah

اردو ترجمہ: اللہ تم پر رحم کرے۔

English meaning: May Allah have mercy on you.

中文翻译:愿真主怜悯你。

বাংলা অনুবাদ: আল্লাহ আপনার প্রতি রহম করুন।

हिंदी अनुवाद: अल्लाह आप पर रहम करे।

3. The Sneezer Answers Back: Yahdikumullah

The person who sneezed then completes the exchange by praying for the one who replied.

يَهْدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ

Roman Urdu: Yahdikumullahu wa yuslihu balakum

اردو ترجمہ: اللہ تمہیں ہدایت دے اور تمہارا حال درست کر دے۔

English meaning: May Allah guide you and set your affairs right.

中文翻译:愿真主引导你们,并改善你们的状况。

বাংলা অনুবাদ: আল্লাহ আপনাদের হেদায়েত দিন এবং আপনাদের অবস্থা সংশোধন করে দিন।

हिंदी अनुवाद: अल्लाह आपको हिदायत दे और आपके हालात सुधार दे।

Word by Word Meaning of Cheenk Ki Dua

Knowing the meaning of each word helps you say the dua with attention instead of habit:

  • Al-hamdu: all praise and thanks
  • lillah: belongs to Allah
  • Yarhamu-ka: may He have mercy on you
  • Allah: Allah
  • Yahdi-kum: may He guide you
  • wa yuslihu: and may He set right
  • bala-kum: your condition, your affairs

Notice the beauty of the exchange. The sneezer thanks Allah, the listener asks for mercy, and the sneezer returns the kindness with a prayer for guidance. A small moment becomes three acts of remembrance.

Source of Cheenk Ki Dua in Hadith and Quran

The full wording comes from Sahih Bukhari 6224. Abu Huraira reported that the Prophet ﷺ said that when one of you sneezes he should say Alhamdulillah, his brother or companion should say Yarhamukallah, and when he says that, the sneezer should reply Yahdikumullahu wa yuslihu balakum. This one hadith contains the complete cheenk ki dua.

Replying to a sneezer is also listed among the rights of one Muslim over another. In Sahih Bukhari 1240, Abu Huraira heard the Prophet ﷺ say that the rights of a Muslim on Muslims are five: returning the salaam, visiting the sick, following funeral processions, accepting an invitation and replying to the one who sneezes. In Sahih Bukhari 1239, al-Bara reported that the Prophet ﷺ ordered seven things, including replying to the sneezer when he praises Allah.

The condition of praising Allah is shown in Sahih Bukhari 6221. Anas bin Malik reported that two men sneezed near the Prophet ﷺ. He said Yarhamukallah to one of them and not the other. When asked, he explained that the first had praised Allah and the second had not.

The first phrase, Alhamdulillah, is also how the Quran opens its first surah after Bismillah:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

English meaning: All praise is for Allah, Lord of all the worlds. (Surah Al-Fatihah 1:2)

中文翻译:一切赞颂全归真主,众世界的主。(《古兰经》1:2)

বাংলা অনুবাদ: সমস্ত প্রশংসা আল্লাহর জন্য, যিনি সকল জগতের প্রতিপালক। (সূরা আল-ফাতিহা ১:২)

हिंदी अनुवाद: सारी प्रशंसा अल्लाह के लिए है, जो सारे जहानों का रब है। (क़ुरआन 1:2)

When and How to Read Cheenk Ki Dua

The sunnah is easy to follow at home, at work or in the masjid. A simple routine:

  1. When you sneeze, say “Alhamdulillah” loud enough for people near you to hear.
  2. If you hear a Muslim sneeze and praise Allah, reply “Yarhamukallah”.
  3. The person who sneezed then says “Yahdikumullahu wa yuslihu balakum”.

If the person who sneezes does not say Alhamdulillah, the hadith of Anas shows that the Prophet ﷺ did not reply to him. A gentle reminder, especially to children, is a kind way to teach the habit. When speaking to a woman, Arabic grammar changes the ending to “Yarhamukillah”, but the meaning stays the same.

Because the dua is so short, cheenk ki dua is a perfect first dua for young children. Say it out loud every time you sneeze at home and they will copy you without being told.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

These are the errors people make most often with cheenk ki dua:

  • Staying silent after sneezing. The reply depends on the sneezer praising Allah first.
  • Replying without hearing Alhamdulillah. The hadith links Yarhamukallah to the praise.
  • Not answering back. Many people stop at Yarhamukallah. The sunnah is completed when the sneezer replies Yahdikumullah.
  • Saying “bless you” instead. Use the words taught by the Prophet ﷺ; they carry both meaning and reward.

Teaching Cheenk Ki Dua to Children

Turn it into a small family game: whoever sneezes says Alhamdulillah, and everyone else races to say Yarhamukallah. Then the sneezer gives the final reply. Within a week most children know all three phrases by heart.

Explain the meaning in simple words too: we thank Allah, we ask Allah to be kind to each other, and we pray that Allah guides our friends. Children remember a dua much better when they understand why they say it.
