Barish Ki Dua in Arabic (Asking Allah for Rain)

When there was a drought, a man stood up during the Friday khutbah and asked the Prophet ﷺ to pray for rain. He raised both hands and said these words three times:

The rain came the same day and continued for a week. This is reported by Anas bin Malik in Sahih Bukhari 1014. A very similar report in Sahih Bukhari 1013 has the words “Allahumma asqina” (O Allah, give us water to drink), so either wording is fine.

Dua When It Starts Raining: Sayyiban Nafi’a

When rain actually begins to fall, the Sunnah is to ask that it be beneficial. Aisha reported that whenever the Prophet ﷺ saw rain he said:

Roman Urdu: Sayyiban nafi’a. Many people begin with “Allahumma” (O Allah), as with any dua.

اے اللہ! نفع دینے والی بارش برسا۔

Dua After Rain: Mutirna bi Fadlillah

After a rainy night at Hudaybiyah, the Prophet ﷺ taught that a believer credits the rain to Allah, not to stars or seasons. The words to say are:

Roman Urdu: Mutirna bi fadlillahi wa rahmatih.

اللہ کے فضل اور اس کی رحمت سے ہم پر بارش ہوئی۔

English meaning: “We have been given rain by the grace and mercy of Allah.”

Dua When Rain Becomes Too Much

The week after the first dua, the same man came back and said that houses and roads were being damaged, so the Prophet ﷺ raised his hands again and said:

Roman Urdu: Allahumma hawalayna wa la ‘alayna. Allahumma ‘alal-akami waz-zirabi wa butunil-awdiyati wa manabitish-shajar.

اے اللہ! ہمارے اردگرد (بارش برسا) اور ہم پر نہ (برسا)۔ اے اللہ! ٹیلوں، اونچی زمینوں، وادیوں کے اندر اور درختوں کے اگنے کی جگہوں پر (برسا)۔

English meaning: “O Allah, (let it fall) around us and not upon us. O Allah, (let it fall) on the hills, the high ground, the bottoms of the valleys and the places where trees grow.”

中文翻译：真主啊，求你让雨落在我们周围，而不要落在我们身上。真主啊，求你让雨落在山丘、高地、山谷底部和树木生长的地方。
